Welcome to tafatefe.com

Updated: Mar 29, 2020

Thank you for visiting our website - and I hope you are all safe and healthy during this crazy time.

With two young girls learning how to play the piano and violin in our house, music is a big part of our daily life and it looks like it will stay this way for some time too! We are very lucky in having two wonderful teachers guiding Aggie (piano + violin) and Thea (piano), and it seems a shame not to have some form of music diary as they progress.

If we are keeping a diary anyway, why not make it a website? Maybe some family, friends & other Suzuki families may be interested in what we do - sharing is a big part of music after all! Having our own website feels like an ideal 'low key' and 'permanent' way of sharing ('Covid-19 Easter' helps make this happen too - it's a holiday project!), and I'm sure this'll be something that we will treasure in the years to come. And having this outlet is not just a way of charting progress, but also a real motivator for us to keep practising too - as enthusiastic as we are, practising can be tough at times and making videos/recordings may well help us through these periods.

We hope that you enjoy the content here - we will be adding videos and recordings, including some of our 'back catalogue' as I hunt/sort them out in my labyrinth of messy folders on the computer. Please do let us know if you have ideas on how to make this site better! As I mentioned on the home page, we keep an online grove on Trees for Life (a very worthwhile conservation charity doing good work in the Scottish Highlands) - we use it as a way to celebrate music milestones and contribute towards the tree planting there at the same time. Any additions to the grove is of course most appreciated (but definitely NOT expected)! Please see https://treesforlife.org.uk/groves/157678/

Lastly, in case any of you are wondering about the tafatefe name... it is a reference to the 'French time names' - a really effective system to help us learn about rhythms - so a crotchet is a 'ta', and 'ta-fa-te-fe' is a set of four semi-quavers. Here are Aggie and Thea demonstrating by practising with the Read Rhythm Right book:

Until next time! B
